Louis XIV
Louis XIV was an abolute ruler who had a very long reign, and who was very influential on French history and culture. Louis stoped the attempted rebellions by the Parliament and the Aristocracy. Louis then took control away from the Chief Minister and ruled France by himself. In most other countries, kings depended on the nobility and the church for their power. Louis was also responsible for the building of the huge palace of Versailles, which took 30,000 workers forty years to build. The Palace of Versailles set the tone for europe for more than a century, and the crown was symbolic of domination over the nobility, failing to realize in time that the world's most beautiful palace was one day going to be the tomb of the monarchy.
