Hammurabi
Hammurabi was the king of Babylonia. Hammurabi is important because of his establishment of Hammurabi's code. Hammurabi's code was the first official (documented) code of law and was a foundation for other code of laws. "An eye for an eye..." and "if a man has stolen a child, he shall be put to death," are examples from the code. This code set punishments in stone and didn't allow the ruler to decide punishments based on the individual person.
